What You Can Do
The Ellensburg Morning Rotary Club in Ellensburg, Washington is a group of people who come together every Thursday morning at 6:45 to promote Rotary’s theme of "Service Above Self." One of our focus areas is LITERACY. While we always welcome support for any of our literacy projects, the one that we are focusing on at our "Read All Around It" Fundraising Market, is our Training the Trainers in Southern Sudan: A Literacy Project.
During the Fall of 2008, our Club had the opportunity to host John Dau, one of Southern Sudan’s lost boys, at our club meeting. Among other inspiring words, he shared with us his dream of teaching teachers in his village more effective ways to teach the children. Since the 2008-2009 Rotary theme was Making Dreams Real, our club voted to support John Dau's dream. Two of our members, who are both educators, along with educator, Janet Finke, traveled to the Pan African Reading for All Conference in Tanzania, August of 09. The club also sponsored two Sudanese educators from John Dau’s village in Southern Sudan. At this conference, our educators did a needs assessment, provided professional development, and began developing a long-term relationship with teachers in Southern Sudan.
Please see how you can graciously support Training the Trainer and other very worthwhile projects through our "Read All Around It" Fundraising Market. Purchase an item from the Market Menu and receive a gift that "thanks you" and that will remind you of the project you support. Items with a red heart by them denote that you will receive “good feelings” for your donation.
