Overview/Mission Statement
Making Things Happen: Story and Passion for Literacy
Our literacy journey began in 2001 with the chartering of the Ellensburg Morning Rotary
Club (EMRC). Our club currently has 51 members who represent a variety of ages and professional backgrounds.
Our two main service goals are:
• Supporting local community initiatives
• Promoting literacy through hands-on-projects
Over the last two years, the EMRC has blossomed to become one of the most active clubs in District 5060 in the area of literacy, both locally and
globally. In 2008, we were awarded the District Literacy Award.
Making Viable Connections
Two years ago, when EMRC developed a relationship with the International Reading Association (IRA), our literacy awareness initiative greatly increased.
IRA / Rotary International (IRARI) partnership brings together two international organizations collaborating to promote world literacy.
They do this in the following ways:
• Cooperation between Rotary clubs and IRA local councils
• Create connections with regional and international literacy projects
• Provide resources and technical support
